Social Projects
Flor Del Maiz is a socially conscious business that uses a portion of its income to help the communities around Lake Atitilan. To this end Flor Del Maiz runs two volunteer organizations: Trek for Kids and Bio-Cultura.
Trek for Kids is a trekking and guiding organization that takes tourists on treks and camping trips in the mountains around Lake Atitilan. All proceeds go towards the educations of our sponsored local children. Website coming soon at http://www.trekforkids.org

Bio-Cultura is a reforestation project aimed at combating deforestation in the mountains around Lake Atitilan. You can learn more about this project at http://www.bio-cultura.com.
We encourage our students to volunteer in either of these projects to make their visit to San Pedro more rewarding. We also have an organic garden where we grow many of the fruits and vegetables served at our weekly dinner. Students are welcome to work there as well.
